DAILY PRAYER
prayer at st chad's
For Christians, prayer is at the heart of all we do. One poet once said, 'Prayer is the Christian's vital breath, the Christian's native air.' Because of this, prayer is part of our daily rhythm at St Chad's. We meet twice a day for the Daily Office, and have regular prayer groups that meet. We also use different forms of prayer, including Christian Meditation.
'Prayer is not asking It is a longing of the soul It is better in prayer To have a heart without words That words without a heart.' Taken from 'The Lord's Prayer' Lent Course |
The daily office
We meet together for the Daily Office every Monday to Friday in St Chad's Church, at 8.30am (for Morning Prayer) and 5pm (for Evening Prayer), except for Bank Holidays. We use the Church of England's daily prayer book, and we will hear from the set Bible readings, and pray for the needs of the Church, the world, our parish, those who are sick or suffering, and those who have departed. The service usually lasts half an hour.
You are warmly invited to join us, and we will help you learn to use the book if needed. Alternatively, you may want to use the Daily Prayer app if you have a Smartphone or iPad/Tablet. This can be found by clicking the link below: |
Prayer Groups
A small group of regular worshippers meet once a fortnight to pray for the world, the church, the sick and the bereaved.
The group takes a special interest in requests for personal prayers. These are referred to the group by the clergy, by requests left on the prayer table in church, by a telephone call from relatives, friends, carers or from the recipient themselves asking for our prayers.
Requests cover many of the situations of life and reflect a wide range of thoughts, feelings and emotions. The group observes complete confidentiality and maintains a good link with the Rector.
Contact the Parish Office for details.

Asking for prayer
If you would like an issue or a loved one prayed for, don't hesitate to contact us! You may want to write a prayer on the prayer cards kept in the Lady Chapel at St Chad's. Alternatively, you may want to contact the Rector by clicking on the link below:
St Chad's also delivers a 'Say One for Me' prayer card to every house in the parish. This is to let people known that we are praying for their street that week, but also gives people an opportunity to ask if they would like something or someone praying for.
